5 Indispensable Tips For Caring For Your Lawn
Having a beautiful and well-kept lawn is a dream of many people, but this is a task that requires discipline and attention. See below four tips that the Earth Development separated for you to have the lawn you’ve always dreamed of:
Have The Right Grass
For starters, you need to make sure the grass planted on your lawn is the right one for the region you live in. Also, each type of grass requires different care. Emerald grass, for example, is recommended for sunny locations, while others, such as São Carlos, are more resistant to the cold. The cutting height also changes depending on the type of grass, so it is essential to be informed before planting.
Cut Care
Mowing the lawn too often can be harmful as it can prevent it from having the necessary reserves of nutrients. On the other hand, mowing at very long-time intervals causes you to cut the stalk of grass instead of its leaves, which can also detract from its appearance. The ideal is to cut every seven days during the warmer months when the grass grows the most and every 15 days in the colder months. After mowing, sweep the lawn thoroughly. Accumulated mown grass debris can impair lawn aeration.
To always have a beautiful lawn, it is essential to mow regularly. Only the leaves must be cut, not reaching the stem; this way, your lawn will always be green.
During spring/summer, the interval between one cut and another must be at least 7 days.
In autumn/winter, the intervals between cuts increase as the grass grows longer. During this period, pruning should be carried out on average every 15 days.
When the gap between cuttings is too long, when pruning, you will be cutting from the stalk of this lawn, not the leaf, which will give your grass a dry straw appearance.
Fertilization
Lawn fertilization depends on the type of grass. Warmer climate grasses should be fertilized in early spring and late summer, while cooler grasses should be fertilized after the hottest part of summer. To find out what kind of grass you have, you can take a sample to a gardening store. As a rule, warm climate grasses appear brown during the winter, while cool grasses tend to be green all year round.
It is essential to apply fertilizer periodically for a lawn that is nourished during the four seasons of the year. Every 120 days, spread fertilizer from 100g to 150g of Forth Jardim fertilizer per m² of lawn, and water the lawn immediately so that the product is quickly absorbed by the soil, avoiding the burning of the leaves.
Irrigation
Irrigation should be done daily and evenly, preferably in the morning. In warmer periods, watering can be done even twice a day; after all, the lawn can lose up to 5 liters of water per m² during the warmer seasons, and this water must be replenished.
Avoid watering your lawn at night because, with the drop in temperature during the night, the grass can dawn wet, which favors the proliferation of fungi.
Tip: You can check, through a simple test, whether your grass needs water or not. Insert a knife approximately 10cm below the ground, and remove. If it comes out dry, the soil needs water.
To find out if your lawn is being irrigated evenly, perform this test at different points in the soil. Source help from professionals like Earth Development in case of any problem.
